LA vs Hate Wishing Tree at the San Gabriel Dumpling and Beer Festival

In partnership with the Asian Youth Center, LA vs Hate showcased its first Wishing Tree art activity at the 8th annual San Gabriel Dumpling and Beer Festival. The custom of the Wishing Tree is one that has been found among many different cultures around the world. The Wishing Tree is an opportunity to spread a message of love, positivity, and prosperity for your community.

At the festival, six wishing trees donated by the City of San Gabriel, were filled with notes from festival attendees who shared their messages of hope, inspiration, and healing. Each participant took a colored tag and answered the prompt with their community wish, then they were invited to hang their tag on one of the ficus trees and take a picture of their tag to post and share on social media with the hashtag #LAvsHateWishingTree.

Joined by volunteers, LA vs Hate also hosted a table with the Asian Youth Center that featured resources, merch, and promotional items for community members who passed by. Many who visited the table left with posters for their homes, storefronts, and schools. Overall this was an engaging opportunity that focused on promoting togetherness, prosperity, and looking ahead. We are grateful for the partnership and support from the Asian Youth Center and the City of San Gabriel to bring this experience to life and advance our work of standing against hate.
